Wow, what a weekend! Last Thursday Tim and I took Monster City to Wizard World Chicago and sold almost a hundred copies of issue one! A lot of people were hooked by the premise because they were fans of either noir/crime fiction or monsters/horror and loved the combination. Quite a bit of female interest was sparked by the inclusion of the Phantom of the Opera in the first issue. And some were just big supporters of indie, self-published stuff and local artists. Whatever the draw was, we're just happy to have so many fans and hope they enjoy the series as it continues! And we're planning to go to many more conventions, with the ultimate dream of San Diego Comicon glistening on the horizon. Monster City is off to a great start so far. And I've started penciling issue two, which we're hoping to print in October. Thanks to all for the support so far, and if you know anyone who's interested in comics, classic horror, film noir, the supernatural, detective fiction, or supporting self-publishing, send them to monstercitycomic.com. Our second printing is underway! And like us on facebook :)

Here's some drawings I did of classic monsters late at night during the convention. Enjoy!

Here's some updated art from Monster City issue one. The issue is being printed now, and will be available for the first time next week at Wizard World Chicago (August 21-24)! Look for us at table E41 in Artist's Alley. If you can't make it, but would like to purchase a copy, email me at aaron.s.nicholson@gmail.com.

Happy Halloween! Read the first thirteen pages of Monster City #1 right here! And wish us luck as we are try to get the whole issue published, with many more issues to come!

Yesterday Tim and I went to Wizard World Chicago and had a blast! We met tons of artists and writers, reconnected with old friends, handed out previews of Monster City, and I even met Stan "The Man" Lee! I told him I was an artist trying to break into the field and he wished me the best of luck, and said he'd be looking for my stuff :) It was a lifelong dream come true. And now Monster City has been blessed by Stan Lee himself, so we've got that going for us!

Anyways, we're planning on having a table of our own next year and might be doing some other conventions before then, which of course, will be announced here. So stay tuned! More preview art is on the way!

Preview of first page of Monster City, issue 1.
To recap my last post, Monster City is a graphic novel I'm illustrating with writer Tim Compton. It deals with monsters in all of their many forms, and  re-imagines the ones you thought you knew! There's more images below, and more to come!

Okay kids, listen up. This is a big deal. These are some preview images from a graphic novel I'm working on with writer and good friend, Timothy Compton. It's called Monster City and I'll be previewing bits and pieces of it here as we shop for a publisher, or we may decide to make the whole thing available digitally. Either way you'll be the first to know if you check in here regularly.

We're really hopeful that this is gonna catch on and take the indie comics world by storm. The story is phenomenal, in my opinion, and I'm trying to make the artwork do it justice. It's a neo-noir crime drama with supernatural elements, and re-imagines the classic monsters of literature and film, putting them in a more modern world of cults and organized crime. Intrigued? Then stay tuned for more!

Oh yeah, and check out Tim's other projects at http://waterfootfilms.com/
